Lady Cardinals routed by Tech

With it's undefeated GLIAC record on the line, Michigan Tech defeated the Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team 62-40 Thursday, Jan. 27.
The loss dropped the Cardinals 5-12 (2-8 GLIAC). The women were supposed to play the second part of their two-game Upper Peninsula road trip Saturday, Jan. 29 game at Northern Michigan, but the game was cancelled after the sudden death of Coach Vonnie Killmer's husband.
The loss dropped SVSU to last place in the GLIAC North.
SVSU could only hold a lead for the first five minutes of the game, before the Huskies went on a 17-3 run that lasted seven and a half minutes of the first half.
Freshman Kali Briggs ended the scoring drought with a put-back lay-up.
Briggs, playing in her first game back since Jan. 15, ended the game with seven points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Inconsistent shooting plagued the Cardinals for much of the game, as they could only put up a 36.2 percent performance, against MTU's 52.2 percent.
The Cardinals ended the game with 23 turnovers, which the Huskies converted into 16 points. Despite the turnovers, neither team could work them into fast-break points. .
Sophomore Lisa Collison was the only Cardinals player in double digits, with 15 points.
It was the fourth game this season the Cardinals were unable to get more than two players in double digits.
As of press time, no date had been scheduled for a makeup of the cancelled Northern Michigan game.
SVSU will return to play this Wednesday, hosting 7-11 (3-6 GLIAC) Northwood University for a 5:30 pm tip-off.
