April 25, 2011 —
The Professional Journalistic Practices Committee of SVSU has appointed a new editorin- chief of the Valley Vanguard for the fall 2011 and winter 2012 semesters.
Toni Boger, a communication and English literature senior, will assume duties starting with the Vanguard’s summer issue.
Boger has worked for the publication for two years, serving as a staff writer and most recently as a campus editor.
“Toni has been competent and hard working campus news editor and has proven great dedication to the paper,” said Noah Essenmacher, the current editorin- chief. “Her experience with writing, editing and coordinating will benefit the Vanguard as the staff looks to continue improving the product.”
Boger credited her commitment to the paper in helping her prepare to take over.
“I’ve grown so much as a writer and as a person since I’ve come to the Vanguard,” she said. “I’m lucky to work with such great people. I hope to give as much back to the paper as it’s given to me.”
Boger is a member of Alpha Chi, the national honor society whose members who are academically in the top ten percent at a university, and Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society.
Recently, she traveled to Milwaukee with the SVSU chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, a communication honor society, to present her research paper findings during the Central States Communication Association conference.
First published in 1966, the Vanguard publishes weekly during the fall and winter semesters. The newspaper maintains an online presence at svsu.edu/vanguard and on Facebook.
