New Asian cuisine comes to Doan Café
January 31, 2005 —
Chinese food has arrived on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University, and it's here to stay.
The new restaurant is called JUMP, and according to Betty Papajesk, retail director of SVSU's Dining Services, it is “not as popular as Quiznos, but second only to Quiznos in popularity.”
JUMP is owned by Aramark Corporation, the parent company of Doan Café, and opened on Monday, Jan. 10. According to Papajesk, it was brought to the campus to offer the students a wider variety of dining experiences.
“We were going to open it in the fall, but did not want any conflict with Quiznos,” she says.
The decision was made to add JUMP after studying similar successful stores at Grand Valley State University and Central Michigan University.
“We gave the students samples last semester,” Papajesk says. “It just seemed to go over very well.”
As is the case for all of Doan Café, students can choose to pay cash or use their meal plan for JUMP purchases. JUMP is open Mondays through Fridays from 11 am to 8 pm.
