Board approves patent change
August 25, 2005 —
The SVSU Board of Control approved a change to the University's patent policy designed to foster more student innovation during its session on Monday. Under the revised policy, students will have ownership of the inventions they create while enrolled at SVSU.
"This is intended to give students more of an incentive," said SVSU President Eric R. Gilbertson, "so that they perhaps become entrepreneurs in the marketplace."
In other action, the Board passed resolutions to grant emeritus status to Berner J. Gorden, Eldon L. Graham, David L. Rayfield and David R. Weaver; approved new members and reappointments to the SVSU Board of Fellows; approved appointing Glenda Labadie, Gary Labadie and John Henry III, and reappointing Donald Bachand, Lucille Beuthin, Carl Fredericks, Chris Fredericks, Barbara Heller, Mino Duffy Kramer, and Sue Vitito to the Board of the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum; approved the addition of grades 1-5 at Detroit Community High School, an SVSU charter school; agreed to authorize an extension of SVSU's sales agreement for electricity with Wolverine Power Marketing Cooperative through December 31, 2008; and passed a resolution to grant baccalaureate and master's degrees.
