Positive thinking a fresh break from dreary winters

The inclement weather we annually see in Michigan has a tendency to impend on one’s perspective, often in a negative way. This is seen every year around this time due to the gloomy atmosphere given by the overcast of grey clouds and the unavoidable bitter cold. Most of us have experienced this first-hand, or maybe some are still struggling with the constant groggy, or even apathetic mind-set that this weather easily produces.

Well, I have a solution — positive thinking and motivation. Yes, the good ole giddiness some find cheesy or humorous, but it works. I am not attempting to preach something found in the “Self Help” section of Barnes & Noble. I’m simply sharing my perspective of feeling down. Being one who has experienced this plenty before, I feel there is a positive outlook on just about anything, and it can be applied by anyone.

This notion of positive thinking is deeper than you may first think. I believe it is more a factor of motivation conquering apathy. I feel the most vitality when I am constantly being productive; this begins with self-motivation. Now, everyone has his or her own way, but some sort of motivation should be found, and a positive outlook is the parallel of this. We are in constant fluctuation mentally, so keeping ourselves motivated seems to be quite important.

This not only should improve our mental health but also improve the other parts of our lives, such as school, work, relationships, etc. Thinking positive is the first step to productivity. If the weight of a simple task like needing to give your dog a bath wears on your morale, then it is only a snowball effect from there.

So, I feel we must apply it to everything to maintain this positive feeling. We must start somewhere; we have to beat the pawns to get to the king. I challenge you to prove your self-motivation within the smallest task and reflect how it feels to simply be OK with a somewhat unpleasant situation. Many say to “pick your battles.”If you find even small results, you are on your way to your own motivation and blissfulness.

Don’t get me wrong, it is inevitable to feel some sort of negativity every once in a while because the pressures of the world are bound to find us somehow, but it is overcoming these pressures that separates the weak from the determined. Positive thinking and finding motivation is the way to do this. But, I do understand this is way easier said than done.

In the heart of the dismal Michigan winter, I feel finding this optimism and motivation is quite helpful and may hopefully spark joyfulness into many perspectives. Hopefully many are able to find love is all around them, and the overcast doesn’t seem so gloomy.
