SVSU administrators receive pay increases
January 15, 2008 —
SVSU executives are receiving a pay raise this year after state budget constraints caused a salary increase to be put on hold last year.
This year's pay increase is for the 2008 calendar year and was set by the Board of Control in a meeting held last December. The decision for a raise in salaries came unanimously, reflecting a 3 percent increase for both 2007 and 2008.
The Board of Control decides executive salaries during an executive session each year in which only board members are present.
David Gamez, chair of the Board finds this year's increase to be a decision that became easy after doing a small amount of research."The vice presidents did not want one last year," he said. "A 2.5 to 3 percent increase per year was appropriate."
President Eric R. Glibertson's annual salary has made a jump to $203,200, a figure just under the earnings of Grand Valley's president, Thomas J. Haas, who earned $205,000 last year.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Donald J. Bachand will end 2008 with a salary of $164,300 and Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management Robert Maurovich earning $150,800. Maurovich was hired in 1996 and Bachand 10 years later.
Last year, Grand Valley's Vice President of Finance and Administration James Bachmeier made a salary of $165,596.
This is a notch above James Muladore, a member of the president's staff that handles the University's business affairs, as he is set to earn $155,100 this year.
Gamez said surrounding university officials receive annual salary increases because it it can be hard to keep executives at SVSU without doing so.
