Cardmail has been facing some problems. The volume of messages and usage bogged down the hardware and software everyday at mid-afternoon.. Ken Schindler the Executive Director of ITS services said "We attempted to add a front end server to separate web processing from message processing. The software simply did not work as advertized with this configuration.We also found that some rules had some significant impact on system performance and suspended rules processing. As some students used rules to forward their e-mail, this unfortunately removed this option. In the meantime, we doubled the memory in the original CardMail server, and as a result were able to better tune the operating system.We currently have CardMail running on a smaller server."
Cardmail is expected to return to its original server either on Tuesday or on Wednesday.
