New gun ruling could affect laws nationwide

Do you have the right to own a gun? It seems like a fairly easy question. We all know about the second amendment; however the first four words in the sentence, "a well-regulated militia", is what has been keeping everyone confused for two-hundred and twenty years. The whole argument may finally reach a conclusion this year with the case District of Columbia v. Heller, which has been working its way through the Federal court system. As early as Tuesday of this week, the Supreme Court could grant certiorari, answering a question it has never directly answered in the history of the United States, and one that hasn't even been considered by the Court in seventy years. »

Last week, the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) announced a new expansion franchise, the Saginaw Sting. The Sting is the third professional sports franchise to locate to the tri-cities area in less than five years: the Saginaw Spirit in 2003, the Great Lakes Loons earlier this year, and now the Saginaw Sting, which will start its regular season next March. »

I read with interest the article that Alex Baumgardner wrote about Michael Venyah of Soulwinners Ministries International recent visit on campus. Even though I do not agree 100 percent with the things Michael Venyah said and how he said them, I would give up my life defending his right to say them. This is America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. The essence of democracy is the freedom of expression. Free speech and the voicing of diverging opinions is what a University is all about. Listening to and considering different postulations and in the end arriving at your own conclusions, via critical thinking is the ultimate goal of higher education. That is how you take ownership of your opinions. »

Battle of the Valleys a success despite losses

The SVSU community proved once again that despite loss, we could still win. Battle of the Valleys didn't turn out how we all hoped, but we didn't lose. We won for the Saginaw City Rescue Mission. »
