Faculty approves contract

The SVSU faculty ratified a new three-year contract Thursday after six months of negotiations with the University. The contract is subject to approval from the Board of Control. »

SVSU raises $13,000, wins 'Battle of the Valleys'

SVSU was awarded its second consecutive "Battle of the Valleys" trophy after being announced the winner of the third annual event during halftime of Saturday night's football game. The $13,012 raised by SVSU students will be for Hurricane Katrina victims relocated to the mid-Michigan region. Grand Valley raised just over $7,000. »

Author discusses stories, dreams

International award-winning author Isabel Allende kicked off the 2005 Dow Visiting Scholars and Artists Lecture Series Wednesday before a near-capacity crowd in the Performing Arts Theatre. SA to discuss Charter revision

The SVSU Student Association created an ad-hoc committee to discuss revising its charter at its Oct. 10 House meeting.

The committee, to be chaired by Parliamentarian Nick Madaj and vice-chaired by representative Reggie Blockett, will consider whether the SA Charter, which was originally drafted in 1996, needs to be revised due to a larger Association. »

Massages to help fund suicide day

To encourage more campus involvement and raise money for the activities that will take place during National Suicide Awareness Day on Saturday, Nov. 19, SVSU nursing students are sponsoring a massage fund-raiser, hosted in collaboration with the Flint School of Massage. »

Students relied on to report smokers outside buildings

SVSU has a no-smoking policy on campus. All University facilities and University vehicles are smoke-free environments from all smoking materials including chewing tobacco products. »

Four give 'coming out' stories

The fourth annual "Growing Up Gay" forum on Tuesday presented the stories of four gay students on campus, and their struggles in coming out to their parents, friends, and the campus community. Aaron Brown, president of the Gay-Straight Alliance, served as the microphone coordinator for the event. »

Students to explore legal careers

SVSU will host Law Awareness Day Friday in Groening Commons and the second floor Curtiss Hall seminar rooms to educate students about careers in the legal field. Online registration is still open for the event, which will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. »

President spends night in Courtyard for 'Battle'

At 3:45 in the morning, most students would assume SVSU President Eric R. Gilbertson would be at home sound asleep. No student would expect to step outside in the early morning and see Gilbertson camped out in the campus courtyard, but that is just what students did see Wednesday night. »

Staff top faculty in dodgeball

In an intense matchup between SVSU's staff and faculty, the staff proved that those working behind the scenes could still sit on top. Friday's dodgeball competition, sponsored by Student Association, was held as a fundraising event for this year's "Battle of the Valleys III." »
