Dougherty leads team to second straight victory in home opener

The SVSU tennis team was dominant Saturday, beating visiting Ashland University with a score of 9-0.
Playing on the home court, the Cardinals won both the singles and doubles matches, while Ashland could muster only one set victory. It was from the third match played from the day, between SVSU's Maggie Dodson and AU's Michelle Maxwell. Dodson lost the first set 5-7, but came back strong with 6-0 and 10-1 finishes. »
Young, talented soccer team still finding its way after 2-0 loss to SIU
The SVSU women's soccer team saw its record drop to 2-2-1 yesterday after a 2-0 road loss to Southern Illinois Edwardsville.The Cougars, who scored a goal in each half, out-shot the Cardinals 20-5. The weather nine hours south of SVSU did not make it easy for either team. »
The SVSU men's soccer team is still winless on the season after a 1-0 loss to second-ranked Southern Illinois Edwardsville yesterday. With a rough GLIAC schedule right around the corner, the Cardinals are now 0-1-2. »
New season kicks off this week
Cards' Party
Campus Recreation will have a table set up at this Thursday's Cards' Party. The table will feature a sign-up sheet for an Intramural Sports e-mail list service, so students can have the latest news about IM programs. There will also be a survey for students to take, probing the interest of specific IM programs and club sports. Those who complete the survey will be entered in a drawing for a basketball autographed by Saginaw native Jason Richardson of the Golden State Warriors. »
The SVSU cross country teams had strong showings Friday at the Northwood Invitational.
The course at Northwood University is primarily under trees, so on hot days it is an advantage to runners, according to head coach Jim Nesbitt. With this advantage sophomore Becca Rudey was able to improve on her time from last season and win the women's 5K race. »
