Music enthusiasts were
blown away last Saturday
by the quality and versatility
of the four-man group of
professional saxophone
musicians.
The quartet opened its
performance by playing the
18th-century oratorio, “The
Arrival of the Queen of Sheba,”
composed by George Frederic
Handel. »
Poetry can serve many functions. For
Carolyn Forché, it’s a means of remembering.
Forché read some of her poetry in the
Roberta Allen Reading Room on Thursday. She is
a Detroit-born poet who is a professor of English
at Georgetown University. »
Good and bad poems drew in many
spectators at the Cardinal Ink and Sigma
Tau Delta poetry slam last Thursday.
The event consisted of two portions:
bad poetry and good poetry. Anyone
could sign up to read their poems in front
of spectators for a chance to win prizes.
Additional prizes were raffled off to the
audience. »
Last Friday the SVSU Choir,
the SVSU Collegium and the Bay
City Chorale performed their
first homecoming concert having
recently returned from Paris.
Very few seats were left empty
as friends, family and other guests
listened with what seemed to be
appreciation and enthusiasm to
the choir’s performance entitled,
“Here’s to Life.” »
