Late success brings expectations for 2011

With the season entering its final weeks,
the Cardinals decided to take a break from
competition.
In an effort to raise money for the
American Cancer Society, 10 dodgeball
members traveled to Houghton Lake High
School to participate in a charity event that
involved teachers and students. The Cardinals
played three games with one pitting the
national power SVSU club team against
Houghton Lake teachers. The final two games
were against Houghton Lake students. »
During their spring break
trip to Kissimmee, Fla., the
Lady Cardinals finished 9-6,
dropping their final four
games.
SVSU reversed that trend
with their return to Michigan
by winning four straight
on Saturday and Sunday,
sweeping two series’ against
Concordia University and the
University of Detroit-Mercy. »
The Cardinals finished 22-
23 overall in 2010 and placed
fourth in the GLIAC.
According to the GLIAC
league coaches, the Cardinals
will end up in the same position
in 2011. »
The 38th annual Al Kayner/St.
Patrick’s Day Road Race was dominated
by SVSU track members.
Former All-American Tony Filipek,
who currently is a student assistant
coach in charge of the middle distance
teams found himself in the lead with a
quarter mile to go in the downtown Bay
City race. »
