At 2:27 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, campus police received a call that smoke was coming
from a car in the J-1 lot. Campus police Sgt. Marc Strain was dispatched to the scene in
order to check on the situation. When he arrived, smoke and flames were coming out of a
Pontiac Grand Prix. »

indicate preliminary descriptions of events
and not necessarily actual incidents.

• At 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, the
resident director from Living Center South
notified campus police that a male nonstudent
was living with a female student.
Campus police made contact and gave
the male a no-trespass letter. »
Although an internship is not a
requirement for graduation, it can give
students an edge when searching for a
job. This is one reason why SVSU will
hold job fairs every year. »
For students who want to rant
about something on campus that
really irks them, Student Association
can take that complaint directly to
the University president. »
Amnesty International is trying
for a second time to form a viable
campus group at SVSU.
Amnesty describes itself as a
global movement of more than 3
million people in 150 countries who
fight for human rights. Members
address a number of issues including:
preventable deaths of women during
childbirth, using child soldiers, and
the death penalty. »
SVSU’s revised housing policy has left many students to question
their living situation for the fall. President Eric Gilbertson and others
helped sort through some of these concerns at the President’s Forum
on Tuesday, Jan. 25. »
When SVSU fraternities chose
to embrace certain stereotypes of
Greek life for recruitment to get
attention, they hosted a mocktail
party.

Pi and Phi Kappa Tau, kicked off
their recruitment week Monday,
Jan. 24 in the Thompson Student
Activities Room with mock
drinks, a night featuring sports
projected on the room’s massive
screen, music, food and mock
drinking games like Beer Pong
and Flip Cup. »
