For four summers I worked at an ice cream shop and I enjoyed the job. Between free ice cream and decent pay, I couldn’t complain. When I asked customers how I could help them, they usually replied with a quick glance from the menu to me and a sigh saying, “Hmm, how are you?” This became so standard that I developed a robotic response, “Pretty good, how are you?” »

It has been just over a month since the midterm elections rocked my world. Not in the sense that I am (or was) a card-carrying member of the Democratic Party, or that I consider myself a liberal, however. Rather, in this election, I witnessed the fall of reason and sanity in the voting process. »

Right rationale leads to fulfilling life

Why are you at this university? Why do you choose to spend your time and money on getting a higher education instead of some other part of your life? If you’re like me, then you continued your education because it was the next logical step. A continuously increasing number of jobs require degrees now on account of the American ideal that everyone should have access to higher education. Everyone wants a job, so people go to universities, for their own reasons or for others’ reasons. »

Wal-Mart’s plan to buy local: the best decision?

To me, Wal-Mart has always been the place to get cheap and decent goods. While growing up, I never shopped there, but since coming to college, it has become one of my favorite havens. It’s a one-stop shop for almost anything. When reading the Oct. 15 issue of The New York Times, I came across an article by Stephanie Clifford about Wal-Mart’s plan for more local food. By 2015, American Wal-Mart stores hope to have 9 percent of its grocery be local, local meaning from the state the stores are located in. »
