Senior spiker leads by example

Leadership belongs on and off the court for senior co-caption and opposite hitter Jessica Treiber.

Treiber has been a captain on the SVSU volleyball team for the past two years and a member for four. She is the only senior on the team, so her approach to being a leader has always been to work her hardest, be a go-getter and play like it’s her last game. With a contrasting style between Treiber and co-captain junior outside hitter Annie Buxton, each brings something different to the table. »

Season full of expectations turns sour

Both Cardinal quarterbacks, senior Charles Dowdell and freshman Jonathon Jennings, saw the field against Wayne State.

Neither had enough firepower to lead SVSU to victory in a 41-27 loss. »

Major deemed top coach

SVSU had its most successful season since coach Mike Major took over the reigns in 2003.

And coaches across the GLIAC took notice, honoring Major as the GLIAC “Coach of the Year” as well as naming sophomore No. 1 single player Yunjiao Shangguan a GLIAC First Team selection. Freshman Andrea Calhoun and senior Cortney Heileman were Honorable Mention selections. »

Progress made in coach’s first year

In his first season as coach, former SVSU graduate Cale Wassermann led the Cardinals to a winning season.

It was a step in the right direction, and one that Wassermann believes will lead to future success. »

1-0 defeat ends regular season

The Cardinals were shut out for the fifth time this season in a 1-0 loss to Ohio Dominican.

After a scoreless first half, the Panthers scored at the 71:31 mark in the Cardinals’ box to walk away with the win. »
