Local artist’s pencil drawing wins $250,000 ArtPrize

A Bay City native won the $250,000 grand prize at the biggest art competition in the world.

“Think Big” were the instructions, and Chris LaPorte kept that in mind when he entered his pencil drawing titled “Cavalry, American Officers, 1921” into this year’s ArtPrize in downtown Grand Rapids.
