The Vanguard Vision
The phrase “the economy is in rough shape” is language we use in the U.S. that has settled down next to axioms such as grass is green and gravity makes things fall down. As a result, it makes perfect sense that penny pinchers are more prevalent and less stigmatized for being frugal. To want the most out of a buck is smart by today’s standards, and the thrifty among us research ways to make this happen. »
I was born on November 13th, 1988. Until I was thirteen years old, there was snow on my birthday every year in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Since then, there has only been snow one year, and it melted by the beginning of deer season, which of course caused a great deal of sorrow in the Upper Peninsula, as full grown men stumbled through the streets with beer all over them, tearing their flannel shirts and wailing. This is some powerful albeit anecdotal evidence that global warming is upon us. While I am surprised that the winter-coat industry doesn’t do more lobbying to limit the greenhouse gases emitted in the U.S., that’s not what I’m thinking about at the moment. I’m thinking about the biggest snow of my lifetime. »
Program Board concert not the best option, reader says
In response to Nick Kaiser’s Dec. 7 commentary titled “Program board’s end-of-the-year concert not the best use of funds”
I didn’t go to the Plain White T’s concert. I didn’t go to the Dashboard Confessional or Ludacris concerts, either. I don’t have the time, interest, or frankly the extra cash to go to concerts, especially at the end of the school year when my mind and body are preoccupied by the hectic exam schedule and end-of-the-year projects. I was never really bothered by the idea of a concert put on by SVSU’s Program Board, but Nick Kaiser’s article last week really made me question the logic of our organization. »

Whenever a fresh high school graduate wanders away from the comforts of home, there is the challenge of finding a place to live while attending a secondary school. The issue that revolves around roommates is one of the larger challenges one must face. If a person doesn’t like his or her living situation, then his or her entire life is thrown off balance. School work becomes more stressful and the workplace becomes a retreat; a home should be a place for recovering and recharging ones batteries for the days that lie ahead. Some students choose to live off campus with friends while others move in with random people. »
