His House responds to Variety Show criticism

The Oct. 2 issue of the Vanguard published a letter by Aaron Brown and Steve Lewitzke titled "His House overstepped boundary at Variety Show." The writers were "shocked and caught off-guard" about two statements from the His House skit. First was that His House included our meeting info in the skit. We have an open membership where any student is welcome to join any time during the school year. We felt this was a creative way to invite people. We did not violate any of the Homecoming skit guidelines, and if a new guideline develops concerning this, we'd be happy to comply.
The second issue was this bold statement (which was met by cheers from the crowd): the Bible says that forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. Brown and Lewitzke claimed this statement bordered on proselytizing and was a smack in the face to many students who strive for diversity.
His House has never and will never reject anyone from joining our organization because of their background, culture, or beliefs. But we make no apologies about believing the Bible is the word of God. The Bible clearly teaches what was said in the skit (John 14.6; Acts 4.10-12). We would never force someone to believe what we believe, but that doesn't mean we should be silent.
The Bible commands Christians to tell others about Jesus. All we can do is show people what God's word says, and let them make a decision for themselves. If you truly believe in something, wouldn't you be willing to take a stand for it? Tolerance and diversity aren't about ignoring convictions, but about loving and accepting people even if you disagree with their beliefs or actions. This is what His House and Christians in general strive for.
