Men's track team dominates

Ten athletes from the SVSU men's and women's track teams had first place finishes on Saturday at the SVSU Outdoor Collegiate Open.
With 204 total team points, the men's squad dominated their portion of the event. The next closest team was Northwood, which finished with 95 points.
Sophomore Kyle Dengler took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.51 seconds, while freshman Sam Tilmon led a trio of Cardinals atop the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.06-second finish.
Freshman Charlie Richards won the 400-meter hurdles in 55.81 seconds, and freshman Kyle McDaniel cleared 14 feet in the pole vault for first. Sophomore Eltaro Hooper jumped 44' 11" in the triple jump, while freshman Sean Egan provisionally qualified for nationals with a shot put distance of 52' 5.5". Sophomore Tony McDaniel finished out the firsts for the men, throwing the javelin 170' 3".
The women took third in the event with 125.5 points, three and a half points shy of second-place Aquinas College.
Sophomore Becca Rudey won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:46.50, while senior Mary Jo Pouillon dominated the hammer throw with a distance of 163' 9.5", which provisionally qualified her for nationals. Sophomore Kali Briggs rounded out the women's first place finishes with a distance of 126' 7" in the javelin throw.
The teams will be in action again when they travel to the Northwood Invitational on Saturday.
