'Greek Fling' planned for tomorrow in Courtyard

Greek life on campus will be hosting the "Greek Fling" tomorrow in the Presidential Courtyard from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

This year, the Greeks on campus have adopted the former "Spring Fling," hosted by Student Association and Student Life, and have given it a Greek twist. They still want to be able to give the students opportunities to relieve stress and have fun the week before final exams, but also give students an idea of what they're all about.

"We wanted a way to show that even though there are different chapters (at SVSU), we can come together and still have a bond in support of our community," says Jennifer Jackson, assistant director of Student Life and Greek advisor.

Alpha Sigma Alpha, Kappa Tau Epsilon, Phi Sigma Sigma, Sigma Pi, and Tau Kappa Epsilon will all come together to put on the event. There will be many activities to do throughout the day, such as rides, carnival games, and inflatables. Carnival games will include ASA's "Can-Can," KTE's "Pluck-a-Duck," Phi Sigma Sigma's "Big Mouth," Sigma Pi's "Finish Line," and TKE's "Balloon Darts." There will also be human foosball, laser tag, bungee run, Twin Spin, and a mechanical bull.

Pizza will be served along with cotton candy and popcorn all day. The University Police Department will also be in attendance, serving root beer.

Students will also be able to enter in several drawings that will take place throughout the day.

Five bands will be performing during the afternoon, including "I Eat Glue," "Morgan's Last Call," "Reed Brothers," "Heirs," and "Korriban."

The Greek Fling will be one of the biggest events of the year for Greek Life.

"We want to have more Greek awareness on campus and show the students that Greeks aren't all bad," Phi Sigma Sigma President Casey Tankka says. "This is our way of letting the students have fun and to give back to the community and campus."
