Rhea Miller Concert Series continues with renowned pianist
March 20, 2006 —
Internationally renowned pianist Alexandre Dossin will perform at Saginaw Valley State University in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the 2005-06 Rhea Miller Concert Series.
The Brazilian-born Dossin has established himself as a critically acclaimed pianist with his varied solo and concerti repertoire. Since his debut at age 14 with the Porto Alegre Symphony in Brazil, he has performed more than 300 solo recitals and concerts with orchestras in 15 countries.
Dossin has received multiple international awards for piano performance, including first prize and the special prize at the Martha Argerich International Piano Competition (Argentina, 2003), the silver medal and second honorable mention in the Maria Callas Grand Prix (Greece, 1996), and both the third prize and special prize at the Mozart International Piano Competition (Austria, 1995).
In Sept. 1997, Dossin became the youngest person ever to receive the "Ambassador of Rio Grande do Sul," a prestigious state award in Brazil.
A graduate of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Dossin received his doctorate in musical arts from the University of Texas in 2001.
He is currently an assistant professor of piano at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Dossin's first CD is a self-titled recording of music by Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, and Prokofiev.
His second CD features music by the Brazilian composer Edino Krieger.
The Rhea Miller Concert Series is made possible by a generous gift from Rhea E. Miller, a long-time friend of SVSU. Her gift, administered by the Miller Trust for Music Education, provides the University with the opportunity to offer outstanding performances by nationally and internationally acclaimed musical artists at no cost to the audience.
There is no admission charge and tickets are not required for the concert, but seating is limited.
