A new snack option debuted on campus Wednesday with the opening of Freshens, a long-anticipated ice cream, smoothie, and pretzel shop located in the old Java City location adjacent to the C-Store.
Developed as a result of on-campus research and market analysis, Freshens offers a variety of snack options for students including sundaes, pretzel bites, and smoothies.
According to Dining Services Marketing Director Heidi Shattuck, Freshens is geared towards residential students looking for mid-day and late night snacks but is also an option for commuters, faculty, and staff alike.
"We had a sampling day and invited the administration, faculty, and staff," Shattuck says. "They absolutely loved it."
Shattuck expects the same type of reaction from students, who have already been frequenting Freshens, which Shattuck says has been "busy."
Part of the reason for Freshens' popularity could stem from its long-awaited arrival. Its opening has been in the works for the last year but was delayed to focus on the openings of the RFoC and Einstein's Eatery.
"We wanted to get those off the ground and running first before we introduced another concept," Shattuck says.
Freshens accepts debit dollars as well as cash and credit. It is open Monday through Thursday from noon to midnight, Saturday from noon to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday from 6 p.m. to midnight.
