Choir sings gospel music in Recital Hall
February 27, 2006 —
The Valley Voices Choir held an evening of song dedicated to "Praise the Lord" on Saturday night in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall.
"We've come to praise the Lord and want you to be a part of it!" exclaimed Reverend Clark, who hosted the event.
The sound of the Choir, led by Marcus, their director, soon filled the Hall. The audience, up out of their seats, joined them by clapping and dancing along. The house band, which consisted of drums, guitar, keyboard, and a piano, accompanied the choir and the other groups for the evening.
As the Valley Voices concluded their portion of the evening, Clark commented on their performance, saying, "They believe what they say and love what they sing." This showed in their enthusiasm during the performances and by their smiling faces.
Other groups that performed in the event included Manifest, Jerusalem Sons, Somethin' Different, Voices of Praise Int'l Miracle Gospel Tabernacle, and Voices of Grand Valley State University. These groups came from all over the state, including Port Huron and Detroit.
Jerusalem Sons, from Port Huron, consisted of all children. These children stomped their feet and slapped their hands together in a choreographed dance. The pounding on the floor created an intense atmosphere as the audience got involved, shouting to them, urging them in their praise.
Midway through the night, SVSU students Orlesha Banks and Krystal Hicks sang a duet of their own rendition of "His Eye is on the Sparrow." Their performance of this song was exceptional and their talent was enjoyed by all.
The Voices of GVSU took the stage last. Coming from Allendale, the choir was pleased to be a part of the celebration. Their excitement showed in their performance, as they swayed to the beat of the music and clapped their hands above their heads. The songs that they performed included "Old Time Way," "There is No Way," and "Thank You For Another Chance."
