February 6, 2006 —
The SVSU men's basketball team capitalized on a struggling Lake Superior State team when it needed to, winning its second conference game of the year 75-50 on Saturday.
Facing a Lakers team with the worst record in the GLIAC, the Cardinals jumped out to a nine-point lead less than five minutes into the game and never trailed en route to the win.
Junior Andrae Betts led all scorers with 23 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the floor, including 5-of-11 from three-point range. Freshman Adam Mughmaw also came up big for SVSU, scoring 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting in just 20 minutes of play.
Sophomore Chris Johnston was the only other Cardinals player to score in double figures, adding 12 points and five rebounds.

SVSU played as well as it could have hoped in the first half to open up a 42-26 halftime lead. The Cardinals shot 51.9 percent (14-of-27) from the floor in the half, including 5-of-10 from the three-point line and 9-of-11 on free throws. The Lakers, meanwhile, managed to shoot just 33.3 percent (9-of-27) from the floor and committed 15 turnovers in the half.
