LCN holds Open Mic Night
December 12, 2005 —
The Living Center North Council gave students the opportunity to show off their talents by hosting Open Mic Night Wednesday in the Cardinal Cage. Students displayed a variety of talents including singing, reciting poetry, and playing musical instruments.
The evening began with LJ Black, who recited an untitled poem she wrote about abuse and drugs, followed by Chester Watson, who did his version of the Christmas classic "My Favorite Things."
Freshmen Kristin Warack read two of her poems titled Words and Fool.
Other acts of the evening included a keyboard and song performance by Jewel Pearson, an acoustic guitar and song performance by Joe Stonebreaker, and a song performance by freshman Amber Webster, who sang the 1960s song "At Last" by Etta James.
Refreshments were served and door prizes were also apart of the evening. Door prizes included a Mr. and Mrs. Smith DVD, an amplified computer speaker set won by Warack, and a DVD player won by Josh Miller.
The winners for the evening walked away with cash prizes totaling $225.
Stonebreaker won first place and received $100, while Crissy Quigey received $75 for second place. Pearson and Jonathan Herendeen tied for third and won $25.
Members from the Council said they are planning to do this event again next semester and encouraged anyone with a talent of any kind to participate.
