SVSU alum Shirley Zarin-Taj highlighted and evening of music Saturday in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall during "The Top of the Pops: A Saturday Night Jazz Concert."
Zarin-Taj, whose real name is Shirlene Z. Brown, is familiar with a wide variety of styles such as Spirituals, Rhythm & Blues, Classical Music and Soul. All of these she uses to help influence the style she is most familiar with-jazz.
Zarin-Taj performed such songs as Bart Howard's Fly Me to the Moon, Paul McCartney's Eleanor Rigby and Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers' My Funny Valentine.
"The Top of the Pops" was part of the Jazz in the Valley Concert Series. The next scheduled concert is a Jazz Ensemble Concert and is scheduled for Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall.
