Osama to be shown by Valley Film Society

The Valley Film Society of SVSU is an independent, non-profit organization devoted to bringing classic and contemporary films to the Tri-city area.

A full season's membership offers 17 admissions, to be used in any combination with the 15 screenings; a trial membership, however, permits only two admissions. Memberships are available by mail or at the door before any VFS screening. Membership cards can be picked up at any film screening.

Regular memberships are $25, SVSU student memberships are $5, non-SVSU student memberships are $10 and a trial membership for two admissions is $10.

All screenings will be held in room Curtiss 100 at 7:30 p.m.

October 14

Osama - During the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, women were forbidden to work or to walk outside without a male escort. A twelve-year-old girl disguises herself as a boy to be able to work, and to support her widowed mother. Now the real dangers begin. (2003, 82 min.)

Baran - Goof-off at a construction site has his sinecure given to a new lad, whom he subsequently torments. But when he discovers that this "lad" is an attractive woman his tune changes. When she is in danger of being fired, he is transfigured by his love for her and discovers in himself noble and empathetic impulses. (2001, 94 min.)

Belle Epoque - A Spanish soldier deserts from the army in 1931, and soon befriends a lonely, old man in the local village. Problems arise when the old man's daughters come to visit their father and the soldier quickly falls in love with each of them. (1992, 108 min.)

November 4

Queen Margot - Enormous production based on Dumas' novel about the St. Bartholomew's day massacre. Evil queen mother Catherine de Medici stirs up evil, even against her own daughter and son-in-law. (1994, 143 min.)

November 18

When the Cat's Away - Young Parisienne returns from vacation to discover that her cat has disappeared. So she searches the neighborhood, eventually finding the cat and herself. An excuse for exploring a quarter of Paris and its inhabitants. (1996, 91 min.)
