The SVSU cross country teams scored very well as a unit this past Friday at the Ferris State Bulldog Invite, as the men placed in the top two and the women had a second place finisher.

Seniors Adam Roach and Brandon Johnson led the men's team. Roach finished the 8K race in first place with a time of 24:50, while Johnson claimed second place and came in one second behind Roach.

The other Cards running the race were sophomore Steve Czymbor and junior Paul Jozwiak. They finished in sixth and seventh places, respectively, with time of 25:07 and 25:12.

The women's team had yet another strong showing from sophomore Becca Rudey, who has been very dominate as of late. She has placed in the top five in three out of four meets so far this season.

Rudey was named the GLIAC Runner of the Week after her performance at the Michigan State Invite last Friday, Sept., 15. Her 19th-place finish was tops for a Division II runner and earned her the title.

At the Ferris Invite, she would not disappoint, finishing the 6K race in second place with a time of 18:40.

Freshman Nicole Schmidt was the next Cardinals runner to cross, finishing 17th at 19:19. Sophomore Jenny Phelan was six spots behind in 23rd at 19:27, and freshman Ashley Gardynik placed 30th with a time of 19:43.

The next meet for the Cardinals is this Friday, as they will compete in the Loyola Lakefront Invite. The event starts at 2 p.m.
