Beginning today, Dining Services will celebrate the grand opening of the RFoC, Einstein's Food Court, and the new Java City location. Prizes, games, free samples and food specials will be part of the festivities that are set to last until Thursday.

The grand opening kicks off at 4 p.m. today near the Courtyard fountain, where the ribbon cutting ceremony for Einstein's Food Court will be held. From there, the celebration will move to the RFoC, which stands to be the central focus of much of the week's festivities.

"(The RFoC) has been widely accepted by faculty, staff and students," says Heidi Shattuck, marketing manager of Dining Services.

And those people Shattuck mentioned will be brought together tonight when faculty and staff members serve students between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. One of the individuals who will be participating in the, "We're here to serve you," celebration is University President Eric R. Gilbertson.

Gilbertson says he is excited about what the new facilities bring to campus.

"I was enthused by the design of the new dining facilities because the marketing studies had indicated that these were the kinds of facilities and services that students wanted," he says. "I also like the idea that students now have more options, and the campus has more places for people to gather and socialize."

As well as expressing his enjoyment of the new dining locations, Gilbertson also mentioned he is looking forward to being part of the celebration.

"The opening events should be fun," he says.

Also tonight, any student who wears an SVSU shirt will be entered into a special prize drawing, the first of many such opportunities in the week where students can walk away with free merchandise.

The RFoC will not be alone in its celebration either. Einstein's Food Court and Java City will also be doing a number of things to celebrate their grand openings. Each location will be giving away free samples daily as well as offering various specials throughout the week.

In addition, Coca Cola's Vault mobile will be in the Courtyard Thursday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., giving away free samples of their new energy drink Vault. Vault, which has been in development for sometime, is said to be Coke's answer to Mountain Dew and has a number of energy drink components.

"We wanted to plan an entertaining week to thank the SVSU community and show everyone our brand new gorgeous facilities and what we have to offer," Shattuck says of the celebration.

Shattuck also mentioned that the reason for a grand opening four weeks into the semester is so that everyone involved with Dining Services has a chance to get accustomed to all the new changes that have come about and make sure things are running smoothly.

"This has been an unprecedented time for us," she says. "We're enjoying ourselves."
