The Student Association meeting Monday addressed a number of issues including higher education funding and Association Charter rules.

A resolution to endorse the K-16 Coalition Ballot Initiative was rejected by the House.

The K-16 Coalition is a group involved in a legislative petition drive to guarantee an increase in funding for K-12 and higher education. If passed, SA would have endorsed the effort to petition to bring the proposal to the people via a ballot.

SA also addressed two resolutions that were passed by last year's Association. The resolutions were inadvertently left off the spring ballot, forcing this year's SA to address them again.

The House reaffirmed HR026-05, a resolution to increase the term limit of a Student Association representative from three years to four. The resolution will now appear on the fall ballot, during elections the first week of October.

The motion to reaffirm HR028-05, which would allow officers to be elected by a simple majority vote, did not pass and will be referred to the Legislative Committee for re-examination.

The House also addressed the upcoming Association of Michigan Universities (AMU) conference.

The House agreed to affiliate with AMU for the 2005-2006 year and passed a motion that will allow the Association to bid to host the February 2006 conference.

In addition, the House elected Representative Steve Lewitzke as the second delegate to attend the conference. Ten students will attend the conference along with Lewitzke and the other delegate, SA President Emily Hammerbacher.

SA also passed a motion to support a proposal that will seek to reform an SVSU Election Commission. The goal of the commission is to organize and hold fair and impartial SA elections.

Additionally, a "Battle of the Valleys" meeting will be held today at 3 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. All are encouraged to attend.

Event planning, committe forming and logo and T-shirt designs are just some of the things that will be discussed. This year's fundraising will be targeted towards Hurricane Katrina relief.
