Trio to perform French music
September 12, 2005 —
The ensemble "C'est la Vie" will perform in concert at SVSU Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall. Ensemble members George Wolfe, James Helton and Paul Reilly will feature compositions of familiar and lesser-known French composers as part of SVSU's Rhea Miller Concert Series.
Wolfe, classical saxophone; Reilly, classical guitar; and Helton, piano - all familiar with the international stage - selected works from French composers that have given the world music of great beauty and sophistication, as well as the distinct musical style that has been called impressionism.
Ensemble "C'est la Vie" (French for "that's life") will present a varied program that includes works by Claude Debussy, Eric Satie, Maurice Ravel, Paule Maurice, and Jacque Charpentier.
The work by Maurice, "Tableaux de Provence," moves through a number of scenes depicting images from southern France, while the Charpentier composition was inspired by music from south India.
The Rhea Miller Concert Series is made possible by a gift from Rhea E. Miller, a long-time friend of SVSU. Her gift, administered by the Miller Trust for Music Education, provides the University with the opportunity to offer performances by nationally and internationally acclaimed musical artists at no cost to the audience.
Tickets are not required for the concert, but seating is limited. For further information, contact the SVSU Box Office at (989) 964-4261 or the SVSU Department of Music at 964-4159.
