Street Fest once again came to SVSU on Friday, and this time the sun was shining.

One of the Program Board's major yearly events on campus, Street Fest was postponed last year after being plagued by bad weather. This year, the skies were clear and the Street Fest was a success on the first try. Set up in the L-Lot and on Collings Drive between the North and South Living Centers, Street Fest attracted a large crowd of SVSU students and staff, as well as members of the community.

The 2005 Street Fest featured various new attractions this year, such as several inflatable carnival attractions. The inflatable rides included an obstacle course, gladiator-style boxing ring, and a Velcro wall, which offered a unique kind of fun for participants wearing an accompanying full-body Velcro suit. The University Residence Association (URA) also sponsored an extreme trampoline-style ride with bungee ropes to bounce the riders. Other carnival rides, like the Hurricane, offered even more thrills for the crowd.

Street Fest also had some returning favorites, including the wax hand booth and basketball hoops. A variety of free food was once again offered, including hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy.

Many campus and community groups also erected tables along Collings Drive and offered a variety of information and free gifts. The University Police Department had a table that offered passersby to "Have a Beer - Cops are Buyin'!" After enjoying their free (root) beer, the participants could attempt to drive a bicycle through an obstacle course while wearing a pair of "drunk goggles."

Housing and Residential Life offered a round of putt-putt at their table, while the Program Board dished out free cotton candy. 100.5 FM "The Beat" played up music with a live DJ, while Student Association (SA) chipped in with a First Aid booth. The Cardinal Formula Racing Team also displayed their nationally ranked car and had team members on hand to answer questions.

The Sigma Pi Fraternity sponsored a major highlight of the Street Fest this year, the Pi Stock concert event.

The event featured the rock bands Broken Sunday, The Minor League, Diver, and Besieged. The concerts rocked the festival throughout the night with covers of famous bands, as well as original songs.

The 2005 Street Fest kept many old standbys, but also branched out with new attractions. Even the date was moved to after Labor Day, as opposed to before the start of classes last year.

The weather stayed clear, and Street Fest once again offered a chance for SVSU students and the community to come together for a free night of entertainment.
