Police briefs

Police briefs are written according to reports from University Police. These indicate preliminary descriptions of events and not necessarily actual incidents.

Assault

• A male student was arrested for assault and battery at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20.

Another young man was dropping off a female resident at Living Center Southwest when her ex-boyfriend, who also is a student, ran up to the car and tried to pull her out. The female punched the male and threw her bag, but he persisted.

The driver of the car got out and held a gun by his side. The driver had a permit for the weapon so no charges were held against him. The ex-boyfriend ran off and later was arrested.

• Police responded to reports of a fight in the Townhomes at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. When police arrived, the fight was over, but students reported that a male had a gun, but got away in a Jeep. No shots were fired and no one was injured and the case is still under investigation.

• A Northwood student broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home in First Year Suites, kicking down her door and physically assaulting her sometime after 1 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Charges are being sought for home invasion, domestic violence, malicious damage to property and trespassing.

• Police assisted at the Townhomes when a fight was called in Sunday, Feb. 21. About 40 people were in the parking lot yelling and screaming at one another. No one was arrested, and the officers made all involved return to their apartments.

• A fight took place in the Ryder Center at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24. Three young women were standing outside the O’Neil Arena when another female attacked them. Others joined in, and it became a three-on-three fight, which proceeded to move down by the football locker room. By the time the fight was broken up, 11 people were involved.

The female who started the fight was arrested.

Harassment

• A female recently filed a harassment claim against a male student on campus. She said she was being nice to the student and that he had misinterpreted her intentions.

She complained that the young man has been following her around, and she has repeatedly told him to leave her alone, but he has not listened. Police talked to the male and told both of them to no longer be in contact.

Minor in Possession

• One minor in possession was issued to a student from Pine Grove at 1:24 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20.

A resident assistant saw two students stumbling back to their dorms and called the police. When officers arrived, one of the students showed signs of extreme intoxication, even though she had a low blood alcohol level. They called an ambulance for her, but she refused to go. She was then issued the citation.

Road Crimes

• Two students were driving south on Bay Road on Saturday, Feb. 20, when a red sports car came from behind and ran into their car, causing severe damage to the back. The vehicle did not stop and drove by.

Police are asking anyone who sees or has information about a red sports car with severe damage to the front driver side to contact them.

• Two students reported Thursday, Feb. 25, that they had been followed by a Blue Jetta on I-75 South near Flint. They said that the driver of the vehicle would pass them and then slow down or pass them and stop by the side of the road until they drove by.

The students pulled into the station, and officers saw the vehicle drive off. Meanwhile, the driver of the Blue Jetta had been on the phone with campus police saying the students were driving recklessly.

The case is under investigation.

Bathroom Trouble

• A female student reported that a boy was in the girls’ bathroom near the Student Center at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24. When the young woman was in the stall, she saw red and black sneakers pointed toward her door and could see an outline of a male outside her stall. The male departed before she left the stall; the case is still open.
