On the Job with Elisa Hodge
TCF gives fourth-year student much needed, enjoyable, convenient job
January 17, 2005 —
Moving off campus often calls for an immediate need for a source of income. This is why Elisa Hodge from Detroit now works for the Saginaw Valley State University Branch of TCF Bank.
"I needed a job and I knew a teller at the SVSU branch from doing my banking on campus," she says. "When I saw the help wanted sign, I was quick to apply."
Although Elisa had no experience as a bank teller, she did have some experience as a cashier. After filling out an application and going through an interview process, she was hired.
Elisa is in her fourth year at SVSU and is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. Although her job on campus does not pertain to her field of study, she still enjoys it because she gets to meet and interact with many new people. Additionally, the convenient location makes it easy for her to make it to all her classes on time.
"I basically open up new accounts, answer standard banking questions, fix problems with ATM cards, and help students balance their checkbooks," she says.
Elisa banked with TCF even before she was an employee and feels that the free, no minimum balance checking account that TCF offers is a good service for students who might incur service charges if they couldn't always afford a minimum amount.
"We also give students free checks and a free check card," she says. "Plus many students take advantage of the option to turn their SVSU ID card into an ATM card."
With two ATM's on campus and incentives to open accounts, "there is nothing I don't like about my job or the company I work for," she says. "Any company that caters to students and their finances is fine in my book."
