MacLelland wins second straight MVP
April 21, 2008 —
Junior Dan MacLelland was named the men's Most Valuable Player by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association and the Bowling Writers Association of America on Wednesday, ending a successful 2007-2008 season.
The Windsor native finished the season with a national best 213.85 average, helping the Cardinals finish first in the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches poll.
"I've worked really hard," MacLelland said. "The coaches and players vote on it, so it was nice to see the respect they showed me with the award."
The award was the second in as many years for MacLelland.
MacLelland received the award on Wednesday, but said he was more focused on the Intercollegiate Team Championships, which began on Thursday, and on helping his team win its third straight national title. However, MacLelland and the Cardinals came up short to Wichita State in the semi-finals.
"Going into the weekend I was thinking more of the three-peat, but I had it in the back of my mind," MacLelland said. "I bowled well. I knew I had a chance to win, but I wanted to focus on the three-peat."
MacLelland's name was also called this weekend as a member of the NCBCA All-American men's first team.
MacLelland has been a key member of two national title teams, and has been ranked as one of the top players in the nation throughout his three-year stint at SVSU.
With one year of eligibility left, MacLelland says he plans on returning next season to make another title run:
"I'll be back."
