Student makes violent comments
A faculty member contacted the University Police and reported that a student made a violent comment in class. When questioned by police, the student denied making the comment.
Police said his alleged comment was not classified as a threat to the campus.
"Students need to watch what they say," Sergeant Marc Strain said. "In a college atmosphere like this you don't talk about putting guns to people's heads, you don't talk about killing your professor. You just don't make those threatening remarks in this day and age."
Strain said that the police investigate incidents like this and monitor students who have been labeled as potential causes for concern.
Vehicle break-ins reported
Two breaking-and-entering incidents involving vehicles were reported on campus the week before Spring Break.
A car stereo and amplifier were reported missing from a student's car in B-Lot by Living Center South on Feb. 25. The owner said that the door was locked, but there was no sign of forced entry.
At 4 a.m. on Feb. 26, two young men were caught looking into car windows and attempting to open doors in the J-3 parking lot.
Strain said these actions weren't a crime and the young men were asked to leave.
Police say that students should make sure that their car doors are locked.
Drug use and sale suspected on campus
A student reported the smell of marijuana on Feb. 22 in the Living Center. Police discovered marijuana cigarettes and other paraphernalia.
Strain said the students were not arrested because marijuana was not found on them. "If we find marijuana we'll arrest them," Strain said.
On Feb. 26, a student in the First Year Suites reported smelling marijuana, and police discovered evidence of drug activity.
A resident of the First Year Suites was arrested on a warrant of possession with the intent to distribute on Feb. 28.
Police suspect the student is connected to other crimes on campus including the theft of video games.
"All of our breaking and enterings, our X-Boxes [cases] this guy's name keeps popping up in every one of them," Strain said. "Either him, or someone he associates with."
