The Cardinals have found a friendly opponent in the Tiffin Dragons.

Saturday's 86-71 victory was the latest in a series of season highs the Cards have achieved while playing the Dragons.

The 86 points was a season high for the team. They were led in scoring by Latille Ross' 27 points, a season high for the senior forward.

Last time the two squared off, junior point guard Tricia Everett set the women's basketball single-game assist record with 15. On Saturday, she recorded her second straight double-double, with 15 points and 12 assists. She currently leads the GLIAC with 7.44 assists per game.

The Dragons came hot from the floor, shooting 53 percent from the field in the first half, and were led by junior forward Leanne Lucius' 11 first-half points. They went into halftime leading the Cards 43-35.

The Cardinals responded by opening the second half on a 16-6, taking the lead with a little over 16 minutes to go, and would not look back.

Ross scored 21 of her 27 points in the second half, and senior guard Brittany Burns scored 12 of her 20 points in the second half, leading the Cardinals on the comeback trail.

The win snaps a four-game losing skid for the Cardinals, including a last second 61-60 loss to Northwood on Thursday.

Ross' 16.7 points per game currently places her fourth in the GLIAC in scoring. The Alabama native's average is up from 14 points per game last season.

The win improves the Cards' record to 7-8 and 1-7 in the GLIAC.

This week, the Cardinals will host Lake Superior State on Thursday, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.

Saturday, they host cross-state rival Grand Valley, with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Cards lost to the Lakers in their previous matchup in Allendale, 69-60.

The Lakers are on a two game winning streak, coming off convincing victories over Merchyhurst and Gannon last week. The Lakers stand at 6-2 in the GLIAC at 11-6 overall, good enough for fourth place in the conference.
