Assault case resolved, but home invasion still under investigation

A domestic assault originally reported in the Vanguard on Oct. 22 has been resolved, but a home-invasion case that occurred in September is being investigated.

University Police Chief Ron Trepkowski said that assault case has been adjudicated.

The student arrested pleaded guilty to domestic assault against his girlfriend, who is not a student at SVSU. He was handled according to the code of conduct and is no longer a campus resident.

Invasion case remains open

There have been no arrests made in the home invasion case which the Vanguard reported in early October.

"We have not had another incident since then," Trepkowski said. "We still don't know the identity of the person."

Nothing was taken from the room and no one was injured during the incident.

While no other incidents have occurred since, Trepkowski said it was important that residents lock their doors.

Trepkowski made reference to a similar incident that occurred back in September. For both intrusions, the suspect entered through sliding glass doors.

"The person is not breaking in or anything," said Trepkowski. "He's just going through unlocked doors."

Other entering incidents have occurred on campus, a number of them being "forgotten room" cases. Even so, Trepkowski restated the importance of locking doors.

"Students need to lock their doors," Trepkowski said. "They need to lock their outer doors. They need to lock their bedroom doors."
