The SVSU volleyball team celebrated Senior Day on Sunday with a victory over Michigan Tech in four games, all the while clinching a GLIAC Tournament berth in the process.

The Cards had a rough start this past weekend losing to Northwood on Friday night, but swept Lake Superior State in three games on Saturday, and finished strong on Sunday beating Michigan Tech in four games.

The Northwood match began well as the girls won the first two games, but they lost momentum in the third game when the Wildcat's defense showed up and refused to let anything hit ground untouched.

Nevertheless, junior outside hitter Sarah Redoute shone throughout the match with 25 kills, hitting .419 and aiding the team with several plays in the back row as well. The end scores were 30-28, 30-26, 26-30, 25-30, 9-15.

The standout in Saturday's match against the Lakers was senior outside hitter Danielle Dryer who hit a .414 overall, along with sophomore middle hitter Jaclyn Carnago, who contributed five blocks, and senior middle hitter Amanda Jablonksi who had 11 kills to her credit for the match. The end scores were 30-21, 30-25, 30-26.

The girls had a rough start to the first game, but they ended up winning 30-24 nonetheless. The teams took the match to four games, and the fourth game was a point-for-point display of pressure volleyball. It was a match riddled with service errors for both teams, and made for several long, back and fourth volleys.

The Cards came from 8 points behind at 12-21 to tie everything up at 25-25 as a result of a double block by Dryer and Carnago.

The rest of the game saw Redoute get both points 29 and 30 with well-placed kills and she also served game point at 32-31. Overall ending scores were 30-24, 30-20, 26-30, 33-31.

Senior Day celebrated the four seniors on the team this year, setter and defensive specialist Jessica Conley, outside hitter Danielle Dryer, setter Amy Howard, and middle hitter Amanda Jablonksi.

The Cardinals are now 20-9 on the season and 9-7 in the GLIAC, and are now looking at their final two games at Ferris State on Nov. 2 and at Grand Valley State on Nov. 3.
