Variety of Christian groups should be celebrated

Letter to the Editor

Kudos for Alie Neumeyer's article, "Christian Groups Show Unity."

There are many Christian groups represented in the student population: Chi Alpha, Kappa Epsilon, Intervarsity, Campus Crusade, Navigators, YWAM, Ecumenical Campus Ministry, and so forth. All of them with 95 percent of elements in common and 5 percent of differences, just enough to spice the mix and make it interesting.

And since unity doesn't mean uniformity, neither does one size fits all. All have Jesus' Prayer in mind found in John 17:20-21:

"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me, through their word. That they all may be One, as You Father are in Me and I in You, that they may be One in Us, that the World may believe that you sent me" as a common denominator. There are all types of Christians from those with a contemporary style of worship to the more traditional, a good and healthy variety; not competing but complementing each other. All exercising their constitutional right to practice their religion the best way they know how, just like our society at large: Methodists, Presbyterians, Baptists, Pentecostals, and so forth, accommodating the different students' schedules and temperaments. !Viva la Diferencia!
