Dragons incinerate Cardinals 4-0
September 24, 2007 —
SVSU's men's soccer team dropped a disappointing decision 4-0 to Tiffin on Friday, bringing the team to 4-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in the GLIAC.
So far, the squad has avoided a repeat of its disastrous 2006 campaign, if only by taking a GLIAC contest against Mercyhurst. But losing ten games straight isn't impossible - the Cards did it last year, dropping 12 in a row down the stretch.
A few of the same problems that have haunted the team all year continued to hamstring them in the game against Tiffin.
The most noticeable of which is the team's inability to net an early goal and force the other team to get one back. The men usually find themselves clawing away at a defecit, and not protecting a lead.
This was the case in the Tiffin game. The Cards went down at the three-minute mark and never recovered.
Difficulty finishing also plagued SVSU in the contest against the Dragons - the team logged a total of 12 shots compared to Tiffin's 19, failing to convert every time. Junior forward Brent Walker recorded three shots on the Dragons' goal, but Tiffin keeper Mke Rutkowski denied him.
The team hits the road Friday hoping to avenge its loss to Gannon, now 7-1 overall with a perfect record in the GLIAC.
