Students crowded L-Lot Friday night at SVSU's Streetfest, an annual festival that offers activities and free food for everyone who attends.

Streetfest, sponsored by Program Board, is set up much like a carnival, with cotton candy, games, and two carnival rides. Other not-so-carnival-like things, such as the wax hands table and the video game Dance Dance Revolution were present as well.

Several bands, including Appearance and Reality - who also played at SVSU last weekend - played throughout the evening on the stage set up in the parking lot.

Despite the uninviting weather, Streetfest was well attended. Students remained at the event well into the evening. At 11 p.m., as much of the event was being wrapped up, students stayed put, flooding the area for the carnival rides and to watch the remaining bands.

"It's a great safe and fun way to enjoy your school," junior Ben Younkin said.

One of the more popular tables at the event was the wax hand table. Students were lined up all night to dip their hands in wax to create a mold of their own hand to keep.

A line was formed for the balloon darts game, set up by the Communication Association. CA President Dawn Jevicks was pleased with the outcome, as she wanted as much publicity as possible since it has only existed for about two weeks.

"We had over three hundred dollars in prizes to give away from our game," she said. "We had a huge line of people to play the game."

Communication Association plans to help build communication skills. Jevicks said she hopes to work with delinquent youth to help teach them how to communicate in society and also plans to visit elderly and nursing homes to also improve communication skills.

"[We're taking] what we learn in the classroom and taking it outside and putting it to practical use," Jevicks said.

CA wasn't the only group standing out in the cold. Sigma Pi, the Disney Internship program, and URA all braved the cold, as well as many others. Most tables gave away free things such as cups, t-shirts, food, and candy.

Students crowded around a table that raffled off things like DVDs and gift cards the for the duration of the evening.

Sophomore Brandon Brownell enjoyed the event, especially the free hot dogs and music.

"It's a good event to have," he said. "Freshmen can meet new people and everybody older can reunite with their friends."
