Lecture on Islam
Dawud Walid, the Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Michigan, will be speaking at SVSU on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Malcolm Field Theatre for Performing Arts.
Walid will be answering questions about Islam, such as what is Ramadan, do Muslims worship a different God than Jews and Christians, is the Darfur crisis a genocide of Arab Muslims upon indigenous Black Africans, are Muslim females second class citizens under Islamic Law, is the Palestinian/Israeli conflict a war between Islam against Judaism, as well as several others.
The event is open to the public. Admission is free of charge, and is sponsored by the Muslim Students Association of SVSU.
Indian Dance troupe to perform
The Indian dance troupe Articulate Bangalorei will perform at SVSU Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall. Comprised primarily of visually challenged performers, the troupe will present a wide variety of dance forms and will be accompanied by both live and recorded music.
The event is open to the public. Admission is free of charge, but because seating is limited, faculty, staff and students are asked to telephone (989) 894-3812 to reserve a seat.
The performance is compliments of Tri-County Physicians, the Bay Medical Foundation, Bay Neurosurgery Associates and SVSU.
SVSU to offer export workshops for regional businesses
SVSU's Center for Manufacturing Improvement and the Michigan Works! Regional Skills Alliance will host a series of five workshops aimed at helping Michigan businesses become more successful at entering international markets and exporting their products overseas.
The first session in the Global Business Academy will cover international marketing. Participants will learn how to develop an effective global marketing plan, identify and rank high-potential export markets, and evaluate and select the best market opportunities.
The presenter will be James Foley, director of the international trade center and NAFTA opportunity center at Bradley University. A frequent speaker, he was named International Trade Educator of the Year in 2006. Each participant will receive a copy of Foley's book, The Global Entrepreneur, which discusses techniques to expand international trade for small to mid-sized companies.

Food Forum
Questions or concerns about Dining Services will be answered at its monthly food forum, this month titled "Food for Thought Food Forum." Guests are invited to offer their thoughts and sample food. The forum will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room.
