Judge to give lecture
Judge Leopold Borrello will deliver the 2007 James E. O'Neill Jr. Memorial Lecture at SVSU on Thursday, September 20 at 7 p.m. in the Malcolm Field Theatre for Performing Arts. His talk is titled "The Man, the Educator, the Legislator: A Tribute to James E. O'Neill."
A native of Saginaw, Borrello served on the bench of Michigan's 10th Judicial Circuit for nearly two decades, including 12 years as Chief Judge of the court, until his retirement in April 2006. Elected to three six-year terms after his initial appointment by Governor James Blanchard in 1987, he remains a visiting judge for the 10th Circuit. Prior to becoming a jurist, Borrello was a senior partner in the law firm of Borrello, Thomas and Jensen, which culminated 30 years of private practice in Saginaw.
Fall Blood Drive scheduled
Health Services has scheduled the first blood drive of the fall semester. The blood drive will begin on Wednesday, September 12, lasting from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and begins again on Thursday, September 13, lasting from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The blood drive will be located in the Alumni Lounge. For more information on, contact Health Services at (989) 964-4649.
Presidents Forum
President Gilbertson will be holding his monthly open forum on Tuesday, September 11, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the Alumni Lounge.
The forum is open to all students, staff and faculty. Gilbertson will be available to answer questions and talk about any concerns about campus issues.
Smoking policy message board
Between August 27 and September 10, the Web-based, moderated message board will offer an opportunity for the SVSU community to share their thoughts about the proposed change to the smoking policy. The message board will be available for public review but the posting of messages, made anonymously or otherwise, will be reserved for members of the SVSU community using their SVSU login ID and password. The message board will be moderated to prevent obscene or offensive comments.

Fraternity / Sorority recruitment weeks
SVSU fraternities and sororities will begin recruiting in the coming weeks. The official fraternity recruitment week beings Monday, September 17, and lasts until Friday, September 22. The Sorority recruitment week begins today, and lasts until Friday, September 14.
