Disney looking for interns on campus
February 26, 2007 —
The Disney College Program will be recruiting students to participate in its semester-long internship this fall on Thursday, March 1. The presentation is open to all students.
Presentations will be held at noon in Groening Commons and at 5 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall. Students are encouraged to bring their completed online application to the presentation. Students must view an on-campus presentation by Disney's representatives at SVSU or watch an online presentation before they can interview for the internship.
Hired-student work in many different areas at Disney World in Orlando, Fla. Students will have to provide their own transportation to and from the park, although there is no application fee.
The paid internship allows students to make money, although they do pay rent each month, which is deducted from paychecks.
"Other than the rent, they pay you," Campus Representative Laura Fountain said.
Various jobs students can work include merchandise, operations, and a variety of food services.
During slower seasons, students may work roughly 25 to 30 hours per week, but according to Fountain, those hours can double when spring break hits. Overtime is paid as well, and at one point, Fountain recalls making up to $16 per hour.
However, many students don't go to make money.
"I went down there for the experience," Fountain said. "I was fulfilling a life goal."
One of the biggest perks of the internship is that students can get into each park free of charge, although they will have to provide their own transportation system or ride the Disney busses.
