Over the past few years, the students of SVSU have been criticized for failing to attend programs designed for their enjoyment. This criticism has come from all sides, including staff, Vanguard writers, and students.
Last Friday night the student body gathered up all of this criticism and slammed it right back in the faces of all of their critics at the Valley Nights Casino Night.
The Multi-Purpose Room was literally packed with students for five and a half hours.
Keep in mind, this was a Friday night. It has been said that all of our students go home on weekends, but that certainly was not the case last weekend. Not only was the event very well attended, the group of students there could not have been more diverse.
There were large quantities of freshmen, upperclassmen, commuters, athletes, international students, white students, black students; it did not matter who you were, the place to be Friday night was the Multi-Purpose Room.
With Casino Night, URA and Student Life proved if you come up with a good idea for a program, promote it well, and run it well, students will come. Students made a statement on Friday: The days of blaming failed programs on student apathy are over!
