Election nearing for SA representatives

Applications for seats in next year's Student Association are available starting today and will be available to all students. The deadline for submission is March 16 at noon in the Student Life Center. Elections will begin April 2 and end April 4.

Shortly after the submission deadline, there will be a mandatory campaigning meeting in the Unity Room for all those who intend to run for SA representative. Campaigns will start that day and run until voting begins.

Twenty seats are open, including that of SA president. Applications are available in the SA office, as well as in Student Life.

In addition, the position of Program Board president will be up for election at the same time.

SA has also revised their budget for the 2007 winter semester, allowing them to use the money in ways that they deem more effective for students.

One of the major revisions was the shifting of $6,815 from the legislative committee to allocations for students and RSO's.

"This wasn't something that came about lightly," said President Andy Suszek. "Aaron [Brown] and I sat down and went over just about every possibility."

SA is also sending representatives Jon DiBartolomeo and Chelsea Robl to a student government conference in Washington, D.C., that is being hosted by the University of Minnesota. The two were chosen at last Monday's House Meeting to represent SA at the conference, which is intended to serve as a workshop for student leaders.

Attendees will learn skills like media relations and how to get other students involved in student leadership.

Robl said she hopes the event will clear up what her future role in SA will be.

"I hope it will help me channel where I want to go in SA," Robl said.

She also spoke on how she intends to strengthen her communication skills through the conference.

"I'm not going for just personal gains," Robl said. "I would like to learn how to better recruit future students."

DiBartolomeo echoed Robl's sentiment about helping other students, especially because they are student leaders and are in a position to do so.

"With great power comes great responsibility," he said.
