The SVSU indoor track teams prepared for next week's GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships by competing in the Jack Skoog Open Friday at Central Michigan.
SVSU will host next week's conference championship, scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
Junior Eltaro Hooper and senior Ashley Bishop were the only athletes to win events for the Cardinals. Hooper took first in the high jump by clearing 6'6.25", while Bishop finished first in the weight throw with a toss of 56'5.75". She also placed second in the shot put at 44'6.25".
Sophomore Sean Egan took second in the shot put with a toss of 51'7"2, while sophomore Sam Tilmon placed second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.57 seconds.
Junior Pete O'Brien took third in both the long jump and triple jump with distances of 20'7.25" and 40'11.5", respectively.
Sophomore Nicole Schmidt took second in the mile with a time of 5:11.50, and freshman teammate Jackie Reder followed her, crossing the line in 5:12.20.
Additionally, sophomore Ashley Morrow placed third in the 400 meter with a time of 1:00.06. Junior Jessica Sweeny finished fifth, running the dash in 1:01.20.
Junior Brittany Gendron was seven seconds off the pace in the 800 meters, finishing third with a time of 2:19.74.
The conference championships begin Friday at 4 p.m., while Saturday's events begin at 11 a.m.
