Day-Lewis reigns in Blood

A couple of months ago, I described Javier Bardem's role as Anton Chigurh in No Country For Old Men as one of the most chilling since Hannibal Lecter. While I still hold to that, Daniel Plainview (played by Daniel Day-Lewis) in There Will Be Blood gives Chigurh a run for his money, as he is, in a more subtle way, even more frightening. »

The Gloaming vies for diverse sound

Name refers to the glow in the sky just after sunset

Technically, they are an alternative rock band, but they play indie-oriented music, blues, and contemporary-sounding rock. Diverse, then, might be a good word for their music. It also might be a good word for their size - as nearly a foot and a half separates one of their guitarists and vocalists and their drummer, who is just over four-feet 11-inches tall. »

The Canvas

"Therapy through art" is the theme of Caroline Heller's Serenity Prayer, located in the SVSU Admissions Office.

Painted in blue, green, purple, and yellow, the five-panel piece is a study in forms, lines, space and abstraction. The layout of the panels - latex on homasote (a type of wallboard made from recycled paper) was particularly challenging to Heller because of the unique angles that each segment expresses. »
