Free music service good for students, University

The mid-summer addition of the music service Ruckus appears to have snuck under the radars of most SVSU students. It has now been almost exactly a month since the Web site reported that the legal music download service would be offered to students free of charge, and yet only a few hundred students have signed on to use its services. »

Off campus living proves to be just as fulfilling

The start of the school year inevitably triggers college newspaper columnists to pound out a few hundred words of advice for incoming freshmen on how to succeed in some aspect of university life. Most don't really want to do these columns, but based on various customs and social norms, we end up sending them out anyways--sort of like Christmas cards. And since I'm not qualified to dole out advice, I'll instead work at dispelling a nagging little myth that has always gotten on my nerves. »

New year offers opportunities

The dawn of a new school year is here. Gone are the days of sleeping in until noon and hanging out with your friends the rest of the day. No more working forty and fifty hours a week to stockpile money so you can blow it on trips to Wal-Mart and Fashion Square Mall when you come back to campus. No more trips to the beach with friends and family. Family vacations are complete and the journey back to our home away from home has now begun. »

Positive psychology can inspire students

I wanted to inform students of a new type of psychology that has been introduced to the world called positive psychology. It is a different type of psychology that focuses on the positive effects that people are born with instead of what is negative and how to fix it. I am very excited about it because I believe this is how everyone needs to live their lives - that is, looking for what is good inside instead of what is bad. »
